When planting a tree, installing a root guidance system helps control and direct root growth in order to prevent long-term issues. It is generally used in situations where root space is limited, such as in urban environments, or when there is a need to avoid invasive or damaging root development.
The objectives are therefore to protect roads, sidewalks, building foundations and underground utilities while still allowing the plant to grow. By limiting available space for roots, the system encourages more vertical or structured root development, helping prevent damage to surrounding infrastructure and enabling long-term coexistence between vegetation and urban environments.
A root guidance system can also promote deeper and more stable root development, allowing roots to reach less compacted soil layers that better support plant growth.
Our preformed basin, available in 3 sizes, is made from rigid recycled HDPE. This material provides high resistance to puncturing, essential for preventing root penetration and guiding their growth. The curved shape of Plantcotex Racine Préformé features textured “bulges” that help reduce root circling, while its inclination directs roots deeper into the soil for safe development away from roads and underground networks.
Plantcotex Racine Préformé also acts as formwork for the planting pit and clearly defines the planting zone relative to the roadway. It is also an excellent support structure for tree pit grates.
