What is a root barrier used for?

Invisible once installed, root barriers are devices placed in the ground to limit or guide the development of tree and shrub root systems. Their purpose is to protect infrastructure and other plantings.

As they grow, the roots of trees and shrubs can damage pavements, roads, walls, building foundations, and underground utilities. A root barrier creates a physical barrier that prevents roots from entering sensitive areas, redirecting and channeling their growth.

Strategically installed, root barriers help preserve underground networks such as water, electricity, gas, and telecommunications systems.

Installing a root barrier can also help contain invasive species such as bamboo or Japanese knotweed, preventing them from spreading to nearby plants.

It is an ideal solution for controlling strong root systems such as bamboo or maritime pines.
